Newsweek Faces Up To No Ice Age Coming

It has been 30 years but Newsweek is finally publicly recanting its 1975 headline and article touting the inevitable global "Ice Age". The predictions included a "drastic decline in food production" and political disruptions stemming from food shortages could affect "just about every nation on earth." Time Magazine had stated similar predictions. Good for them to note their predictions failed. But they are not out of the prediction game. They do state that global warming is a given for our future and it is all caused by man's actions.

Next month they plan on a major story predicting that man will have 3 heads by the year 2170. That is one prediction I agree with and look forward to.

Past scientific forecasting failures aside, we should try to move away from fossil fuels, if for no other reason than to stop being dependent on unfriendly and unreliable sources.

I think the conservative right and libertarians aren't doing enough to engage on this argument other than to deny that there is a problem. Sure, maybe there isn't, but there's enough suggestive evidence that we should look into some relatively inexpensive ideas. If we don't engage, the left will own the terms of debate. The result of that will be massive government intervention.
