No Apology Necessary

This morning's Fox and Friends show anchors thought the John Kerry "joke" or "slander" of the American military has ended his Presidential hopes.

They are wrong.

Kerry openly and candidly stated a position of the left wing of the Democrat party. They consider the miltary a career of last resort. They feel that anyone with brains would avoid the military and possibility of death during a war---any war. They feel that "war is never the answer". They also believe that Bush, Republicans and conservatives or libertarians are both simple and heartless. The simple are the fly-over voters that they cannot relate to. The heartless are people who espouse free market, small government solutions to plights of the needy.

This, Kerry's comment was nothing to apologize for in his mind as it is consistent with the liberal wing's anti-military philosophy. That will not necessarily be a political handicap within his party.

Mike Taylor adds:

... that Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Jack Murtha are not making any campaign appearances these last two weeks. They are nowhere to be found...!

The Dems are well aware that they have to hide how far left wing the Dem leadership is... it hurts them at the polls everywhere but San Francisco, Manhattan, Portland, Seattle and Vermont.

What a great party the Dems have, such pride in their positions!

If the Dems take control of the House, Pelosi is planning on holding her press conference in DC... NOT San Francisco. (If the Republicans hold on, Hastert's press conference will be from his Illinois office.)

Agreed. The rhetoric consistently coming out of the Democratic leadership has portrayed our troops as nazis, terrorists, stupid, victims, never as the heroes and protectors of freedom that they are. Their contempt for our military oozes from their pores despite their claims that they support our troops. Kerry has only apologized for his "botched joke" while the MSM plays up Republicans "pouncing" on this opportunity rather than the pattern of behavior that we have seen from Kerry and other Democrats regarding our military. By the way, Hillary is now folding up like a cheap suit, calling for a withdrawal of some troops by year end....what a shocker, eh. We should make a list of ways the Democrats want to make our troops and our citizens more vulnerable to terrorits attacks, but I'm afraid their isn't a forest large enough to supply the paper to write it on.

I find the Kerry remarks sickening. It is beyond a "botched joke". The GOP needs to put that in ads in every competitive race, so people see the Dems true colours.

The co-riders in my car pool (both of whom are “knee jerk” Democrats) were discussing Kerry’s remarks this morning. The driver (who although is left is typically informed) said that Kerry was stupid. His comments will give Republicans a fodder in this tight election which might well tip some races in their favor. Specifically she stated “he (Kerry) already lost one election for us” (meaning 2004) She further went on to say that the Dems rightfully “benched” Kerry, canceling scheduled campaign stops he was to make. The other co-rider just kept calling Kerry and Bush “stupid”. Both agreed with me that Kerry made it worse by adamantly refusing not to apologize.

As to Kerry’s insistence that it was a botched joke, consider his words and the explanation by his spokeswoman:

Kerry said: "You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq." There were a few polite titters from the audience.

A Kerry spokeswoman, Amy Brundage, said later that the senator's prepared text had called for him to say: "Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush."

If you botch telling a joke don’t you think you’d at least get the subject of your joke in there? If he meant to be making a joke about Bush then wouldn’t you have at least mentioned Bush’s name?

Botched joke? I don’t think so.

It is exactly what elitists think about those who join our military. “They’re not smart enough to get into college or get a job”

Folks,

It is time for me to get back on my political soapbox because I have read about an individual, John Kerry, who I have had nothing but contempt for most of my adult life, has decided to deingrate people who I have spent a lifetime with, the American military, for cheap political gain. The basis for my contempt is described in the following paragraphs, which I have highlighted in blue, which in my mind totally offsets whatever credibility he gained from his four months of naval duty in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam aboard the Swift Boats:

As its dominant tactic in their battle against the war, the antiwar movement successfully demonized Vietnam veterans by calling a series of "tribunals" or hearings into war crimes. But... they were packed with pretenders and liars -- historian Guenter Lewy, writing in "America in Vietnam"

John Kerry's lies about the activities of the Swift boats were part of a larger pattern of deception. As a leader of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW), Kerry testified before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on April 22, 1971, telling the Senators and a national audience that American troops "...had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Ghengis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam..." and accused the U.S. military of committing war crimes "on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command."

Kerry's charges were based on a VVAW conference called the "Winter Soldier Investigation" -- a leftist propaganda event funded primarily by Jane Fonda. None of the Winter Soldier "witnesses" Kerry cited were willing to sign affadavits, and their gruesome stories lacked the names, dates and places that would allow their claims to be tested. Few were willing to cooperate with military investigators. The Naval Investigative Service found that several of the veterans said to have given statements at Winter Soldier were in fact imposters using the name of real veterans.

The fact that this man came within 3 million votes of becoming the Commander in Chief two years ago (and thinks he can still get the job in 2008), using as his primary justification his 4 months of service in Vietnam, is downright appalling not to mention frightening when you look at the current quote I have highlighted in Green shows his attitude about the people he wants to lead (not to mention his ignorance of who they actually are) has not changed in 35 years:

909am update San Gabriel Valley Tribune/Pasadena Star News reports on the Angelides campaign event at Pasadena City College where Kerry trashed the troops..."Kerry then told the students that if they were able to navigate the education system, they could get comfortable jobs - "If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq," he said to a mixture of laughter and gasps."***

I believe the junior senator from the Democratic Republic of Massachusetts (with apologies to Mitt Romney and Carl Nelson) is the gift that just keeps on giving to Republicans and Conservatives. If there was ever a reason for the Republican base to get mobilized and make sure they vote on November 7, John Kerry just provided the ammunition (along with Lynne Cheney's shot at Wolf Blitzer of CNN about whether the Old Media wants the US to win in Iraq). This is not the last you have heard about this topic. I suspect it will be the subject of several TV ads in the next seven days.

Whether your preference on November 7, vote! Too many Americans have sacrificed too much on too many battlefields to forfeit this privilege by simply staying home,

As a 35 year veteran of our Armed forces believe me when I tell you I’ve seen stupid. Stupid is meeting with the North Vietnamese in your Navy uniform. Let’s not be so critical of Learch he can recognize dumbness when he talks about the military.
